Quality Means Attention to Detail

In every industry, quality is essential to success. Everything that we produce for our clients functions as a part of a bigger piece and must conform to strict tolerances and precise specifications. When we produce a part, quality is our number one priority. Each hole should align properly, welds should be accounted for and the piece should fit together perfectly with its mate. At Jones Metal, precision is paramount. It must be, because the overall quality of a completed product is easily compromised from the smallest component oversight.

The Jones Metal Difference:
Attention to detail and quality go hand in hand when it comes to parts manufacturing and hydroforming. At Jones Metal Products Company, we understand the importance of quality in the manufacturing process and work with our customers to ensure that their unique specifications are met, scrap material produced is minimal and quality parts are delivered on time.

Reducing Scrap Material
Quality is also about being conscious of the materials used in the manufacturing process. During our parts manufacturing process, we strive to produce as little scrap material as possible. Consistently, our scrap levels have been below 2 percent of our sales, a number well below others in our industry.
Creating Quality Parts
At Jones Metal, our hydroforming processes can accommodate blanks up to 32.5 inches to form parts with depths up to 14 inches and diameters to 27 inches. We also operate at forming pressures up to 10,000 psi, tackling material gauges up to 3/8 inches (steel) and 1 inch (aluminum). We have deep experience working with many varieties of metals, including stainless steel, brass, copper, lead and titanium; plus a variety of clad metals and state-of-the art alloys including hastelloys, inconels, cobalt and nickel alloys.
Delivering on Time
Our on-time delivery averages 98 percent, a measure that we track daily and which is benchmarked against the performance of other metal stampers and formers participating in annual studies of the Precision Metalforming Association.

Quality Equipment for Complex Parts Manufacturing

At Jones Metal, we offer our customers an array of comprehensive parts-manufacturing services. Each process requires unique equipment to get the job done right and Jones Metal has invested in a number of machines for hydroforming, stamping, fabricating, machining, and heat treating. 100 Years of Metal Forming and Manufacturing

Jones Metal Products Company began business in 1923, at the site of a former metal stamping and porcelain enameling company in West Lafayette, Ohio. Frank E. Jones, a young entrepreneur, was principal owner and first president of the eponymous company. Product focus shifted soon from pots and pans to hospital sick room utensils and lighting reflectors. Core strengths were in stamping and enameling.

The company’s focus began to change when Frank’s son-in-law Ed Mulligan joined the company. Looking for different ways to make metal parts and find new customers, Ed led the company to purchase a Cincinnati Hydroform machine. The machine was a good fit, well supported by skilled operators and tool and die technicians. Customers supplying the aerospace industry, commercial lighting customers, and a clad-metal cookware manufacturer found a capable new supplier in Jones Metal Products. Hydroform business supported the purchase of additional hydroform machines of various sizes; the company now has eleven machines in service. With the increase in business through hydroforming, the company closed its porcelain enameling operation and sold the lighting reflector company.

Investment not only in metal forming equipment but in technical services to provide next steps for formed metal parts has been strategic in Jones Metal’s continuing development and success and customer satisfaction. Upgrades over the past 20 years have transformed the company’s capabilities with the addition of aluminum and vacuum heat treat departments, 3 axis and 5 axis machining centers, 3 and 5 axis lasers. A fluid cell forming machine has expanded capabilities of the hydroforming department. The company specializes in forming metal parts for many industries, including aerospace, power generation, medical container, defense, and commercial lighting.

The company continues under private ownership. Dan Erb, who has been CEO since 2002, and his wife Kelly purchased the company on August 19, 2019. His goal is to continue the legacy started by Frank Jones, Ed Mulligan and Marion Sutton.

BY THE DECADE

1920’s: The company was incorporated in 1923 and soon thereafter acquired Saks Stamping and Abolite Lighting to manufacture hospital sick room utensils and commercial lighting reflectors (including RLMs).

1950’s: The lighting businesses grew. The first Cincinnati Hydroform was purchased in 1958, the first of eleven machines now in operation.

1960’s: Clad-metal and aerospace parts began to be produced with hydroform technology.

1990’s: Jones Metal continued to invest in technology with CNC milling machines. The company earned ISO certification in 1999.

2000’s: In-house aluminum heat treating was begun and received Nadcap approval in 2004. New metal-working equipment was added: CNC lathe, 3 axis and 5 axis laser cutters, 5 axis mill, and CNC press brake.

2010’s: Equipment additions continued with a 5 axis router, 2 3 axis milling centers, and a fluid cell forming press. Primary industries served: aerospace, power generation, medical container, defense, and commercial lighting.
